SENIOR CARE & HEALTHCARE

Healthier Residents. Steadier Operations.

Respiratory illness in senior living doesn’t just affect residents — it disrupts staffing, supply chains, and daily operations across the entire facility. UV-C air disinfection addresses the problem at the source.

THE OPERATIONAL COST OF ILLNESS

When One Resident Gets Sick, the Whole Building Feels It

When respiratory illness spreads through a senior living community, daily operations shift rapidly from routine care to crisis management. Infection prevention and indoor air quality improvements are increasingly viewed as a core operational strategy — not a discretionary upgrade.

Staff Absences

Care teams spend more time on monitoring and isolation protocols, driving overtime and burnout.

Supply Consumption

Oxygen, PPE, and testing materials are consumed more quickly during outbreaks.

Hospital Transfers

Each transfer requires coordination, documentation, family communication, and follow-up care planning.

Routine Disruption

Dining, activities, and daily services are interrupted — affecting resident wellbeing and family confidence.

FIELD EVIDENCE

Field-Tested. University-Verified.

Light Progress partnered with researchers from Purdue University’s Lyles School of Civil and Construction Engineering to evaluate upper-room germicidal UV disinfection at Cardigan Ridge, a 118-unit senior living community in Minneapolis.

11 upper-room GUV units were installed in dining spaces, the library, fitness rooms, and gathering areas. The existing HVAC infrastructure remained completely unchanged. All commissioning followed NALMCO’s internationally recognized GUV certification protocols. The project aligned with ASHRAE Standard 241 for Equivalent Clean Air delivery without mechanical upgrades.

What the Pilot Answered

No HVAC Replacement Required

UV-C disinfection was added as a clean-air layer on top of existing ventilation — no mechanical upgrades, no capital disruption.

Minimal Disruption to Residents

Systems were commissioned and validated following NALMCO protocols with no interruption to daily operations or resident routines.

Credible Evidence Generated

Independent university researchers tracked CO₂ levels, HVAC data, core IAQ parameters, and infection incidence across five comparable facilities.
